Agro forestry - Definition

An ecologically based natural resource management system in which trees are built-in in farmland and rangeland’s an integrated approach of using benefits from combining trees, shrubs with crops and/or livestock. It combines agricultural and forestry technologies to create more various productive, profitable, healthy and sustainable land-use systems.

Types of agro forestry

There are four types of agro forestry which coordinates and manage the given land and also enhance and improves its productive ability, these types are as follows

1. Silvopasture agro forestry

2. Silvoarable agro forestry

3. Forest forming

4. Forest gardening

How agro forestry works

Agro forestry is one of the practices that save he maxim natural resource and preserve the fertilization of the land. It works differently in different situations. Basically it promotes the nature through the incorporating environment and climatic suit abilities. It also helps the farmers and agricultural aspects to diversify the ability of their land in order to produce huge quantity of crop

Silvoarable Agro Forestry: 

A form of agro forestry which is developed in the result of combination of cultivating crops and land of forests, this is known as silvroarable agro farming. It really helps us to generate the variety of plants and horticulture crops for cultivation.

Forest Farming

it’s the form of forestry in which multiple types of plants are used for cultivating the forests in order to make them. As known that rainfall in the forest are in big amount as compared to the un forested areas ,so the soils of the forests are more fertile as compared to the local lands and it quite easy to produce good farming there

Forest Gardening: 

Forest gardening is the extended branch of  agro forestry which is used for managing and replacing the wild forest plants wit the fruitful cultivated crops and plants such as fruit plants, vegetables, herbs, shrubs .This process is also known as the forest plant growing. It is a very useful branch of agro forestry for human beings.

Advantages of Agro Forestry:

•  The farmers are benefited in the different ways for instance they get well designed system for cultivation, which is also well executed.
•  Agro forestry systems also offer and facilitate the framer with the extra earning because it enhances the production ability of the land too.
•  Diversification of forest and cultivating crops also reduces resources and labor costs and also minimizes the risks involved in the cultivations of crops.
•   Mix up of long lasting forest crops with annual agricultural income creates big profits on the annual basis too. The entire system is profitable.
•  Forests provide food and shelter for the livestock which is significant and beneficial in multiple ways ways. From the environmental point of view as well as from the cultivation point of view.
•  The property of trees to prevent Soil wearing away and preserve nutrients in the soil is known to all. In case of legumes crops, trees fix the nitrogen content of the soil and improve soil fertility.  There are lots of benefits of agro forestry which are valuable for mankind. Some important advantages are given below

1. It increases the productivity and enhances the profit also.

2. It also helps in increases the security of the yield.

3. It increased the fertility of soil and also helpful in preventing the soil erosion.

4. Source of protection for the animals and plants form different types of hazards.

5. It also help in maintaining the cycle such as nitrogen cycle, carbon cycle etc.

Disadvantages of Agro Forestry:

Agro forestry has many types of benefits s but at the same time it also has some disadvantages i.e.

1. This system is very difficult to manage and need more accuracy.

2. They yield small amount of cultivated crops as compared to other.
