Kyoto protocol
What is the Kyoto Protocol
Background of Kyoto Protocol:-
Kyoto Protocol was negotiated in Japan Kyoto in December 1997 and was opened for signature in March 1998 and closed a year back. Kyoto protocol would not take effect till 90 days unless 55 countries involved in the UNFCCC. There were two conditions to be fulfilled, first was the involved countries had to represent 55 percent of world’s total carbon dioxide emissions met on May 23, 2002. When Russia became involved in this agreement then the second condition was fulfilled and the Kyoto Protocol came into force on 16 February 2005. U.S president George W. Bush as a prudential candidate also promised to reduce carbon dioxide emissions but when he selected as a president then withdrew U.S support.
What is Kyoto Protocol:-
Kyoto Protocol was an agreement or international treaty to bring all countries together to reduce global warming and for dealing the effects of unavoidable increase in temperature after 150 years of industrialization. Kyoto Protocol was developed with the collaboration of many countries in December 1997 but come into power in 16 February 2005. The reason for this duration was the terms of agreement settled upon Kyoto Protocol. The countries involved in this agreed to reduce emission of greenhouse gases that contribute to global warming. Industrialized countries support Kyoto Protocol except U.S state which release more and more greenhouse gas and responsible for those more than 25 percent of generated by humans worldwide.
How Kyoto Protocol works:-
Kyoto units are allocated to these countries called AAUs on the basis of their assigned amounts under this agreement where each unit signifies to emit one tone of carbon dioxide. The Kyoto protocol has also the ability to create and acquire Kyoto units from other countries via three flexibility mechanisms:
• International Emissions Trading
• The clean Development Mechanism (CDM)
• Joint Implementation
These mechanisms are based on a principle to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions that benefit the climate in spite of this thing where they are used. The Kyoto protocol enables the global community to reduce the emission of green house gases and the action taking cost will vary from place to place where this action is being taken.
Goal of Kyoto Protocol:-
The goal of Kyoto Protocol is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to 5.2 percent below 1990 levels but compared to the emission levels occurred by 2010 without Kyoto Protocol that represents a target of 29 percent. Kyoto Protocol sets target of emission reduction for industrialized nation except developing countries and to meet their targets, countries that are in this agreement would have to combine on these strategies:
• They put restrictions on biggest polluters
• They have to manage transportation to reduce emission of gasses from automobiles
• They implement better usage of renewable energy sources
Kyoto Protocol the Success or failure?
The Kyoto Protocol would appear to be destined to failing its objectives even before the 2008-2012. The levels of carbon dioxide are rising in atmosphere at a frightening rate with no sign of slowing. Kyoto protocol has the limited data and knowledge at this time that’s why science behind Kyoto seems weak. Scientists studying global warming as nature fighting back in ways they never take it serious concern as daily basis. Kyoto should be viewed as a stepping stone to more powerful effect that is required now.
Conclusion:-
Patriots are concerned just with their own countries as they have not been trained to think globally in terms of the environment. Elected politicians and official just have concern with their seats, careers and their political parties they are not taking it a serious matter. Although scientific community has made it clear, we are in a great troubling condition which is global issue that doesn’t care about any race, color, political affiliation.
